FREE Social Media Content Calendar
A content calendar is a really efficient way of managing your social media updates over different platforms. You can make sure that you’re getting the right balance between sales and informative updates so your business can really get the most out of your social media use.
Some people think social media takes up a lot of time, but like all things, if something’s worth doing it’s worth doing well. You can make using social media a lot easier for yourself by using our FREE social media content calendar – all we ask for in return is a Tweet! It’s been designed in Excel so it’s really simple to use!
Originally designed for print publications, a content calendar is an extremely useful tool to keep your updates and posts on track and organised. Our calendar contains space for you to plan updates on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and on your Blog. You can use it to plan your posts on as many or few of those platforms as you want.
Why use a Social Media Content Calendar?
- You’ll be more organised
- Ensures you post regular updates and content
- Lets you look at the ‘bigger picture’ and helps you achieve your social media goals
- Makes a connection between all the social media platforms you use so you have a consistent message
- Everyone knows ahead of time who is responsible for making the updates and what is required of them (so no more shirking!)
- Plan timely updates and promotions to tie in with holidays or events to create maximum interaction and engagement
- Prevent writers block, whether it be for a 1000 word blog post or a 140 character tweet!
- Save time
How to use a Social Media Content Calendar
Each month, decide…
- Who you’re talking to. Who is your target audience? Mums, teachers, people in a particular industry?
- What are you going to talk about that month? Can you tie it in with a promotion your company is holding or a particular theme or topic?
- What is the goal of your social media update? If you don’t set a goal, you won’t know if you’ve been successful!
Then fill in the main body of the spreadsheet with the text for your Facebook updates, Tweet, LinkedIn updates and ideas for blog posts. (Our calendar has tips and advice for how you can do this!)
You can plan your social media updates a month in advance, 3 months, or even a year! Whatever you’re comfortable with and works best for you. Remember, this is just a plan, nothing is set in stone. You can change your plan if you want to and tweak it to get the best results.
At the end of each month…
- Look over your updates and decide if you have achieved the goals you set. If not, why? What didn’t work? Can you make changes for next month? If you did achieve your goals, why? Try to replicate and increase your success next month!
- Which types of posts worked best for you? What was it about the posts that made them successful? The images, the way you wrote the tweet, the length of the Facebook update?
- Also look at the time that you made the update or post and see if that had a bearing on how successful it was?

I like the idea of paying with a TWEET – I’m very happy to promote your calander but you are asking too much to expect me to give you access to my profile, permission to update/change it – no one but me has the right to change my profile, post tweets for me – no it is MY tweet channel – I decide. I also decide who to follow although I don’t care who sees who I follow and you can see that by looking at my tweets if you follow me.
There is a problem with a presumtion by marketeers that because much of social networking content is public, it is theirs for the taking and use. This is similar to the un-ethical practices the banks got into.
Be honest, open and ethical and you will get clients. Do this just because you can and you will destroy your business.
Hello Michael, thank you for your feedback. The authorisation that you see asked for is from the ‘Pay With A Tweet’ application, not Hallam Internet. The terms on their website say this about their application…
Your Personal Data:
- Pay with a Tweet will never give away your personal data provided.
- Pay with a Tweet does not save any user data of the people accessing content through the Pay with a Tweet system.
- Pay with a Tweet does not post any Tweets or posts on Facebook without the users authorization.
We’re always testing and trying new things and as a small business ourselves, we’re finding Pay with a Tweet is a great way of engaging with our customers and fans. Companies like Wexford Opera and Ford College have already downloaded the calendar.
The intention of offering the calendar using Pay with a Tweet was to aid the sharing of it. We use the calendar ourselves and wanted to let as many people know about it as possible because we think it’s a great tool. I’d happily email you a copy if you’d prefer though. Just let me know Michael!

I would be happy to pay with a tweet AFTER I have a chance to review the content I am tweeting. I don’t like the idea of tweeting about something I haven’t had a chance to check out first.
Hello, Heidi, and thanks for the feedback.
I’ve arranged to have a copy of the planner emailed to you, and hope you find it useful! Maybe you will even tweet about it once you have had a chance to review it!
We’ve had great success with the Pay with a Tweet option, and we continue to get reveberation as folk download it and give us a mention.
Best wishes
Susan
I would like the chance to try this out. If it is good I will definitely tweet it – it sounds like just what I need
Hello Jo,
Thanks for your comment. I’ll email you a copy of our calendar now. Hopefully you’ll find it really useful!
Kind Regards,
Sarah
I’d be curious in viewing/testing before endorsing as well. Thanks in advance for the offer and understanding!
Hi Andrew,
I’ve emailed you a copy of the calendar. Hopefully you’ll like what you see and we’ll look out for your tweet!
Sarah
Would I be able to get a copy emailed to me as well? I don’t mind tweeting if I get a chance to see what I am tweeting. Thanks.
Hi Bruce,
It’s on it’s way to you now! We hope Weight Watchers in Canada will benefit!
Kind Regards,
Sarah Dawes
