Internet marketing from 2011 to 2012…and a round up of what you need to be doing in 2012.

There were an abundance of round up posts towards the end of last year, but if we had published this list in mid to late December you would have missed out on some absolute crackers.

Here at Hallam we have done the hard work so that you don’t have to – we have curated the best blog posts of last year (and because we have published at the start of 2012 we have been able to include prediction lists and tips for the upcoming year).

So fire up your bookmarking tool of choice because this going to be an epic one that hopefully you are going to want to refer back to again and again in the upcoming year.

The Ultimate Guide to Keyword Research by Glen Allsopp. If you needed anymore keyword research tips and tidbits then this was the place to get them.

18 Tools To Speed Up Link Building by Justin Briggs. Tools don’t make the link builder – but they can certainly make them more productive!

SEO Guide to Creating Viral Linkbait and Infographics by Ed Fry over at Distilled. This is less of a blog post and more of a guide (and you can download it as a pdf). Packed with great visuals this is an awesome guide to creating link bait from scratch.

Content Marketing Posts of 2011

Content Marketing – Tactics and Best Practices by Lee Odden. A simple but thorough break down of the top 30 ways of using content marketing to promote your business on the Internet.

The Content Marketer’s Guide to Web Content by Amanda Milligan. This covers similar ground to the Lee Odden blog post but is structured well. For each type of content marketing you get definition, origin, when to use them and usage tips. Indispensable.

Analytics Posts of 2011

50 Google Analytics Resources – The 2011 Edition by Kristi Hines. This is what curation is about, picking the very best posts and featuring them together in one handy place for bookmarking.

Technical SEO Posts of 2011

Microsoft Excel for SEOs by Mike Pantoliano from Distilled. Another epic guide rather than blog post – great for getting a handle on the Excel skills that you need to set you apart from the competition in research.

Data Scraping guide for SEO by Himanshu Sharma. A great advanced post for honing your data scraping skills. Comprehensive and featuring some great tools.

Duplicate Content in a Post-Panda World by Dr Pete. A complete guide to duplicate content issues and how you go about fixing them. Well written, easy to understand and with strong visual content to guide you through.

Making Data Sexy — Excel Formatting 101 by Annie Cushing. No matter what you use Excel for just staring at a sheet of figure can make your eyes burn. Check out this guide to making your spreadsheets look pretty (and more importantly, easy to scan and make decisions).

Learn Any Area of Excel using these 80 Links by Purna Duggirala (or Chandoo). Essentially a round up of Chandoo’s awesome Excel posts, you will find everything you ever need to know about Excel here.

Local Search Ranking Factors, Vol. 4 by David Mihm. Less of a blog post, more of an epic journey in to what will help you rank in Local SEO. Works as a beginners guide and Local SEO cheat sheet.

Adwords Posts of 2011

The Most Expensive Keywords in Google AdWords by Larry Kim. A great example of when the data is appropriate for the infographic and a lesson in keeping it simple.

The 10 Cardinal Sins of Paid Search Marketing by Ellerton Whitney. Avoid the mistakes that others using PPC as part of their marketing mix are making on a daily basis.

Social Media Posts of 2011

60 Social Media Marketing Tips for the Holiday Season by Kerry Jones. Published in September – for Christmas. Not only is this post jam packed with tips it also shows that you have to be thinking ahead all the time!

The Ultimate Glossary: 120 Social Media Marketing Terms Explained by Kipp Bodnar. The latest entry onto the list (it was published on the 30 December and we aren’t going to let you know who it pushed out!).
