An internet marketing expert has received one of the country’s oldest honours.
Susan Hallam, Managing Director of Hallam Internet, was given the Freedom of the City of London at an intimate ceremony in the Guildhall.
She said: “The ceremony was quite moving, and was full of tradition and meaning. It is an immense privilege to be admitted to the Freedom of the City, and I’m delighted to now play a small part in London’s unique history.
“The beautiful parchment document, my Copy of the Freedom, will take place of honour in our company boardroom, displayed proudly alongside our more modern Google accreditations and qualifications.”
The Freedom of the City dates back to 1237, and is offered to individuals to celebrate significant achievement.
Mrs Hallam, who is a member of a City Livery Company, the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, formed Hallam Internet in 1999.
Her company, Hallam Internet, sponsored the Institute of Direct Marketing Summer School, offering new graduates the opportunity to improve their marketing skills and learn from acknowledged marketing experts. Hallam Internet also delivers workshops on behalf of The Princes Trust, Nottingham Trent University’s Future Factory, as well as providing consultancy to a number of not for profit organisations including LATI, The Malaria Consortium, and CIC.
She is also the Chairman of the East Midlands International Trade Association, and actively supports IT4Arts, a charity providing digital and IT support to arts and cultural organisations.
Amongst other traditions, the honour allows Mrs Hallam symbolic privileges including carrying a sword in public, the right to drive her sheep across London Bridge, and to be hanged by a silken rope.
