Nottingham business professional Susan Hallam has been appointed as a trustee of Nottingham Castle Trust , a non-profit organisation tasked with promoting the £24 million pound scheme to redevelop the Castle site.
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has earmarked £12.9 million for the transformation of Nottingham Castle into a world class visitor attraction. Work will now take place to develop the plans in detail before a subsequent application for a further £12.4m is submitted to HLF in Autumn 2015.
Ted Cantle, Chair of the Nottingham Castle Trust, said: “We are delighted that Susan Hallam has joined our Trust Board and her experience and expertise will be of great value as the scheme to transform the Nottingham Castle moves forward. The Castle scheme is a once in a generation opportunity to create a world class visitor attraction and Susan will now be a key part of that endeavour”.
Speaking of her appointment, Susan Hallam said: “This major project is great news for Nottingham city, and I am proud to play a small part in the redevelopment of our Castle. Not only will the Castle offer the fun and excitement of Robin Hood and the Rebels, but it will also bring to life 1000 years of Nottingham’s history, and provide an improved home for Nottingham’s world class art and heritage collections.
“This project will make the Castle into an attraction of national significance, transforming it into the major heritage attraction that we all know it so richly deserves to be.
“I believe this project will put the Castle right back where it belongs: at the heart of Nottingham’s local, national and international cultural and economic life. It is most certainly going to be the most significant project in Nottingham in my lifetime, and I’m delighted to be part of it.”
