We get to work with some awesome businesses, but we’re also proud to work with a variety of charities across a number of important causes.

So, when Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People approached us to create a future-proof website to meet the demands of a digital-first experience for staff, service users and supporters, we got to work…

About the client

Covering the East Midlands area, Rainbows Hospice care for hundreds of families each year who have a child or young person with a serious or terminal illness.

They provide a variety of services including bereavement support, end of life care, symptom management, short breaks and respite care with support from a team of doctors with expertise in children’s palliative and end of life care.

Their mission is to support every child and young person in reaching their full potential and creating memories for their families to treasure. Rainbows

The issues they faced

The Rainbows website became a crucial tool for families who need its support and also for promotional uses to raise vital funds and create public awareness, as Rainbows relies on raising the vast majority of their income from voluntary donations.

Their current website gradually became unfit for purpose, facing technical issues which led to problems when donating online and the current CMS was unsuitable for the Rainbows team to use as it lacked flexibility.

This is where we jumped in. Rainbows challenged us to create a world-class, user-friendly website to meet the needs of their staff, service users and supporters.

Kate Vines, Project Delivery Manager at Hallam said: “Rainbows came to us with a few challenges around the user experience on the donations page along with some issues they were having processing the donations.

“The team at Hallam worked closely with Rainbows to ensure all requirements were met and to provide a solution that not only looked great but also addressed their previous concerns around donating.

“The work is currently in its second phase, where we are making further improvements to the site to add in extra features and functionality.”

What did we do?

Our goal was to create a bright, engaging and, of course, fully-functional website on WordPress CMS

The first step we took was to run discovery workshops with the Rainbows team to uncover their pain points and identify the needs of each of the core audience and user groups. We then developed wireframes and SEO research to make sure the brand, users and search engines were all taken into consideration.

Jake Third, Managing Director at Hallam said: “I love it when we deliver a great product for a meaningful cause – our project with Rainbows is a perfect example of this. We achieved custom integration with their CRM to increase operational efficiency. We also managed to increase their mobile speed to 100 and their bounce rate declined by 16%. Well done to the whole team who expertly managed this project.”

Ta-da! The results are in…

We pride ourselves on taking a unified approach to deliver exceptional results to our clients.Rainbows QuoteWe saw an improvement in all areas across the board including user engagement, lowering bounce rates and improving viewing time.

Nishil Saujani, Head of Marketing and Communications at Rainbows Hospice, said: “Working with Hallam has been a pleasure. When we commenced planning for this project over a year ago, having been through the process before, I braced myself for a difficult twelve months ahead. However, Beth, Kate, Tom, Dave and the team helped ensure everything ran smoothly and the process was virtually pain-free.”
